Construction of the 2nd ICC
Z: 제주국제컨벤션센터 건너편 부지에 제2 센터가 공사가 한참이다.
사실 올해 APEC 정상회의 제주유치를 위해서 2025년 내 준공을 목표로 하고 있었다.
정확한 프로젝트 명칭은 ‘마이스 다목적 복합시설: 제2컨벤션센터’ 확충사업이다.
The second center is under construction on the site across from the Jeju International Convention Center.
In fact, this year's APEC Summit aimed to be completed within 2025 in order to attract Jeju.
The exact name of the project is the expansion project of the "MICE Multipurpose Complex: 2nd Convention Center."
A: 그래서 올해 준공이 될 수 있을 것 같나요? So do you think it can be completed this year?
Z: 공사 준공이 내년으로 미뤄질 가능성이 커지고 있다.
공사과정에서 암반이 예상보다 많이 나왔다.
There is a growing possibility that the completion of the construction will be delayed until next year. During the construction process, more rocks came out than expected.
A: 그렇군요. 만일 정상회의가 제주에서 개최되었다면 큰 문제로 작용할 수도 있었겠네요.
I see. If the summit was held in Jeju, it could have been a big problem.
Z: 그렇게 볼 수도 있지만, APEC 정상회의 개최지가 경주로 결정되면서 제2 컨벤션센터 사업 추진에 대한 동력을 잃은 것도 작용했다.
That may be considered, but the loss of momentum for the promotion of the second convention center project also played a role as the venue for the APEC summit was decided to be Gyeongju.
A: 이 사업은 언제부터 진행된 사업이죠? When did this project start?
Z: 2023년말부터 시작된 사업이다.
제주국제컨벤션센터 인근 부지(건너편)에서 마이스 다목적 복합시설 건립 공사를 진행하고 있는 것이다.
It is a business that started at the end of 2023.
The construction of a MICE multi-purpose complex is underway on the site (crossing) near the Jeju International Convention Center.
A: 사업비는 얼마나 투입되는 사업인가요? How much is the project cost?
Z: 총사업비 880억원이 투입된다. 연면적 15,110평방미터에 지상 2층, 지하1층 규모로 조성된다.
마이스 다목적 복합시설이 갖춰지면 전시회 부스 300개, 연회 2천명, 회의 6천명을 동시에 수용할 수 있게 된다.
A total project cost of 88 billion won will be invested.
It will have a total floor area of 15,110 square meters with two floors above ground and one underground.
Once the MICE multi-purpose complex is installed, it will be able to accommodate 300 exhibition booths, 2,000 banquets, and 6,000 people at the same time.
A: 제주로서는 전시시설이 많이 부족한데 마이스산업에 매우 큰 도움이 되겠네요.
Jeju lacks a lot of exhibition facilities, so it will be very helpful for the MICE industry.
Z: 앞서 말했지만 제주는 2025년 11월 APEC 정상회의 유치를 위해서 당초 2025년 8월 준공을 목표로 했다.

A: 공정률이 얼마나 되나요? What is the construction progress rate?
Z: 2024년말 기준으로 43%에 그치고 있다.
착공 후 터파기 공사 과정에서 암반이 발견되었다.
공법을 변경해서 추진중이다.
As of the end of 2024, it is only 43%.
After the groundbreaking, rock was found during the excavation work.
The public law has been changed and is being pursued.
A: 그럼 준공시점을 언제로 보고 있나요?
Then when do you think the completion time is?
Z: 제주도청은 공사 준공 시점이 2026년으로 미루어질 것으로 내다보고 있다.
The Jeju Provincial Government predicts that the completion date of construction will be delayed to 2026.
A: 무리해서 공사를 하기보다는 안전에 초점을 맞춰서 준공을 하는 것이 중요하겠죠.
제주에 좋은 시설이 준공되어서 제주의 마이스 산업이 잘 성장하길 기대한다.
It's more important to focus on safety than to push ahead with the construction.
I hope that Jeju's MICE industry will grow well with the completion of good facilities in Jeju.
