Z: 제주도청이 미국의 주요 대학들과 글로벌 교육과 연구에 협력을 하기로 하였다.
A: 미국의 어떤 대학들과 협력해 나가는 건가요?
Z: 미국의 조지메이슨대학교와 유타대학교 그리고 뉴욕주립대 스토니브룩이 제주도청과 협력한다.
A: 미국의 유명대학들이 제주와 교육연구에 협력을 해나간다니 좋은 소식이다.
Z: 이번 협력사업은 런케이션과 연관이 있다.
A: 런케이션. 배움 Learning 과 휴가 Vacation을 함께하는 런케이션 프로그램을 같이 운영하기로 한 것이군요.
Z: 그렇다. ‘Learning Vactiona 활성화와 교류협력을 위한 업무협약’을 이번에 체결하였다.
협약서 내용에는 다음과 같은 내용을 포함하고 있다.
1) LEARNCATION 교육 프로그램을 공동 운영하고
2) 제주의 가치와 비전, 그리고 미래를 공유하는 협업 프로그램을 운영하는 것에 협력하기로 하였다.
A: 미국의 대학들이 그것도 3개나 협약에 참여하는 것은 보기 드문 일이다.
대학들에 대해서도 간략히 설명해 달라.
Z: 조지메이슨대학교는 1972년 설립된 대학교다. 버지니아주에 소재한 공립 연구대학으로, 경제학과 정보와 보안, 데이터과학, 정치학, 국제관계학 분야에 매우 특화되었다.
현재 약 4만명의 학생이 재학 중이다.
A: 한국에도 캠퍼스가 있는 대학이지요?
Z: 인천 송도국제도시에 위치해 있다.
그리고 유타대학교는 1850년에 설립되었다. 컴퓨터 공학과 의과대학, 비즈니스 스쿨이 강점인 공립 연구대학이다.
33,000명의 학생이 재학 중이다.
유타대학교 아시아캠퍼스도 송도국제도시에서 운영되고 있다.
A: 그럼 마지막 스토니브룩에 대해서도 설명해달라.
Z: 뉴욕주립대학교 스토니브룩은 1957년에 설립된 공립 연구대학교이다.
의료기술과 생명과학, 컴퓨터공학, 수학과 물리학 등이 강점이다.
26,000여명의 학생들이 재학 중이다.
뉴욕주립대학교 스토니브룩 캠퍼스도 송도국제도시에 있다.
A: 아무래도 한국캠퍼스가 인천송도에 위치해 있다보니, 대한민국 최남단 섬 제주와 협력을 해나가기가 물리적으로 쉬울 것으로 기대된다.
Z: 첫 프로그램은 조지메이슨대학교가 주관하는 하계학기 프로그램이다.
이번 여름 7월 15일부터 28일까지 제주대학교에서 진행될 예정이다.
그리고 유타대학교와 뉴욕주립대 스토니브룩 학생들도 참여한다.
이번 프로그램에는 3개 대학에서 총 25명의 학생들이 우선 참여한다.
내년부터는 미국 및 유럽의 학생들이 추가로 참여할 예정이다.
A: 프로그램의 내용은 어떤 것을 담고 있죠?
Z: 한국어 교육과 제주문화와 역사 체험 등 다양한 콘텐츠가 제공될 예정이다.
A: 제주에서의 배움과 휴식을 취하는 LEARNCATION 프로그램이 활성화되길 기대해본다.

Z: The Jeju Provincial Government has decided to cooperate with major universities in the United States on global education and research.
A: What universities in the United States are you cooperating with?
Z: George Mason University, Utah University, and New York State University Stony Brook cooperate with the Jeju Provincial Government.
A: It's good news that famous universities in the United States are cooperating with Jeju in educational research.
Z: This cooperative project is related to the launch.
A: Running. You're going to run a running program that combines learning and vacation vacation.
Z: That's right. The 'Business Agreement for Revitalization of Learning Vactiona and Exchange and Cooperation' was signed this time.
The contents of the agreement include the following.
1) the LEARNCATION education program will be co-operating
2) They decided to cooperate in running a collaboration program that shares Jeju's values, vision, and future.
A: Even 3 univerities of USA participating into Agreement.
Please also briefly explain the universities.
Z: George Mason University was founded in 1972. It is a public research university in Virginia that specializes in economics, information and security, data science, politics, and international relations.
About 40,000 students are currently enrolled.
A: It's a university with a campus in Korea, right?
Z: It is located in Songdo International City, Incheon.
And the University of Utah was founded in 1850. It is a public research university whose strength is computer science, medical school, and business school.
There are 33,000 students in school.
The University of Utah Asia Campus is also operated in Songdo International City.
A: Then please explain the last Stony Brook.
Z: New York State University Stony Brook is a public research university founded in 1957.
Its strengths include medical technology and life sciences, computer engineering, mathematics and physics.
More than 26,000 students are enrolled.
The Stony Brook Campus of New York State University is also located in Songdo International City.
A: Since the Korean campus is located in Songdo, Incheon, it is expected that it will be physically easy to cooperate with Jeju, the southernmost island of Korea.
Z: The first program is a summer semester program organized by George Mason University.
It will be held at Jeju National University from July 15 to 28 this summer.
And Stony Brook students from Utah University and New York State University will also participate.
A total of 25 students from three universities will participate in this program first.
From next year, additional students from the United States and Europe will participate.
A: What's the content of the program?
Z: Various contents such as Korean language education and Jeju culture and history experience will be provided.
A: I look forward to activating the LEARNCATION program, which takes time to learn and relax in Jeju.
